Why Highfields Is Made for an Active Outdoor Lifestyle

With spring underway, it’s a great time to get outdoors and enjoy everything Highfields has to offer. Bushwalking trails, leafy parks, sporting facilities and plenty of open space make it easy to embrace a more active lifestyle. Whether it’s a morning walk, an afternoon at the park or a weekend exploring local trails, spending time outdoors can become part of everyday life.

Located just north of Toowoomba, Highfields combines the convenience of an established community with easy access to nature. Whether you prefer a morning walk, weekend picnic, family bike ride or organised sport, there are plenty of outdoor activities in Highfields to choose from.

Explore Highfields Falls

For a dose of nature close to home, Highfields Falls Bushland offers several walking trails through native vegetation.

Walks range from short, easy circuits to more challenging sections with steps, creek crossings and natural surfaces. The trails also provide access to the top and base of the waterfall, making this a great place to explore when you have an hour or two to spare.

It’s also a rewarding spot for birdwatching, photography or simply enjoying some quiet time surrounded by bushland.

Slow Down at Peacehaven Botanic Park

For a more leisurely day outdoors, Peacehaven Botanic Park is one of Highfields’ standout green spaces.

Set across 4.7 hectares, the park features more than 400 species of native plants and trees, expansive lawns and views towards the Bunya Mountains. Meandering accessible pathways make it ideal for a relaxed walk, while picnic shelters, barbecues and a nature-inspired adventure playground make it a popular choice for families.

Pack a picnic, let the kids explore the playground or simply find a shady spot and enjoy the gardens.

Discover a Bushwalk in the Heart of Highfields

Another local option is Charles & Mottee Rogers Bushland Reserve, where an 872-metre walking circuit winds through trees and undergrowth.

The relatively flat Grade 2 trail takes around 20 minutes, making it an easy addition to the day when you want to get outside without committing to a long hike.

It’s a good example of what makes Highfields different: pockets of natural bushland remain surprisingly close to shops, community facilities and residential neighbourhoods.

Get Active with Local Sport

Highfields also offers plenty of opportunities for those who prefer organised sport.

The Highfields Sport & Recreation Park includes sporting fields, netball courts, tennis facilities and a walk and cycle path network, alongside a playground, picnic areas and barbecues.

Highfields also hosts a local parkrun, providing another way for walkers and runners to get active while connecting with the community.

For swimming and indoor fitness, Highfields Aquatic & Fitness Centre offers a 25-metre heated outdoor pool, gym, group fitness facilities, multipurpose courts and other recreation facilities.

A Lifestyle Connected to Nature at Botanic Highfields

This connection to the outdoors also plays an important role in the vision for Botanic Highfields.

Across the 90-hectare community, 38 hectares will remain as open green space, including a protected environmental reserve and koala habitat, wetlands, parks and landscaped areas. Walking paths, seating areas and picnic shelters will provide more opportunities to step outside and enjoy the natural surroundings close to home.

In future stages, at the heart of Botanic, a community park will provide another place for families to play, meet and spend time outdoors.

With Highfields just five minutes away and Toowoomba around 20 minutes from home, Botanic brings together nature, open space and everyday convenience.

For those who value an active lifestyle and room to enjoy the outdoors, it’s another reason to consider calling Highfields home.
